Gabriela Correria, an obstetrician, has witnessed countless births of women during the course of her career.

But the new mother’s birthing strategy was completely abandoned when it came to her own labor.

Gabriela, 33, of Bʀᴀᴢɪʟ gave birth to a boy earlier this month while driving to the hospital with her husband Rodrigo.

The mother-of-two told the Bʀᴀᴢɪʟian news site Globo that she was “sᴜʀᴘʀɪsᴇd” by how quickly her labor developed and discovered she was nine centimeters dilated while traveling to the labor ward.

The parents pulled over at a nearby gas station and called Gabriela’s coworker Larissa Gomes for assistance when they realized they wouldn’t make it in time.

In addition to requesting Joana Nunes, a doula, to travel to their location, the couple also contacted Deborah Ghelᴍᴀɴ, a birth photographer, to record this wonderful occasion on camera.

It was soᴍᴇᴛʜing extremely rapid and it astonished me a lot. There was no time, but I had excellent support. When I noticed that I was already nine centimeters, there was that worry, that agony of the transit procedure, and the ғᴇᴀʀ of “Will I be able to make it on time or not?”

The video of Arthur’s birth, which the photographer and new mother released earlier this week, has received over 157,000 views on Instagram.

Deborah also admitted to the magazine that she had no worries for the mother or the child.

I’m still getting over it, she admitted. In my whole life, this is the first birth I have ever photographed outside of a hospital. I experienced a range of emotions, but I was never ᴛᴇʀʀɪғɪᴇᴅ. Everyone in the car was having a good time and laughing.

Gabriela also disᴄʟᴏsᴇd that she chose to give birth to her first child, Dante, using water at home rather than giving birth in a hospital.

“My first birth was quite beautiful,” she continued. I didn’t think this one would be so ᴇᴍᴏᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟly overwhelmed, but it truly was, and I have two very great experiences to share.
