The OOCL Hᴏɴɢ Kᴏɴɢ was the third container ship to exceed 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and the largest container ship ever built at the time of her delivery in 2017. The ship carries more than 21,000 TEU for the first time. She is the lead ship of the G class, from which five subsequent vessels were built.

She was christened and delivered in May 2017, exactly two months after MOL Triumph, the first ship to exceed 20,000 TEU, was christened. She was created at the Geoje shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries, with yard number 2172. In the same shipyard, during the course of the same year, six G-class ships were built.

The MAN Diesel & Turbo (MDT) G-type 11G95ME-C9 11-cylinder, inline, two-stroke engine that propels OOCL Hᴏɴɢ Kᴏɴɢ generates 83,656 horsepower (62,382 kW) at 79 revolutions per minute.
