The development of aircraft has made human life more and more convenient. There are many kinds of planes with different sizes, weights and uses. Which of these engineering wonders are the biggest planes ever made? Below are some of them:
Stratolaunch
With a 117-meter wingspan, the Stratolaunch is roughly twice as large as a Boeing 747. It has two identical fuselages, three wings with one of which is in the center, and six Pratt & Wʜɪᴛney engines mounted on 28 wheels. It weighs 580 tonnes. Despite having the biggest wingspan in the world, the Stratolaunch nevertheless takes off and lands on runways like any other aircraft. As soon as it reaches its cruising altitude, which is around 10 kilometers, one or more launch vehicles are deployed.
Antonov An-225 Mriya
The only aircraft with six turbofan engines was the Antonov AN-225 Mriya, which was also the biggest cargo in the world. The aircraft, a marvel of modern engineering, could carry up to 250 tonnes of cargo on short- and medium-distance flights, including single sections weighing up to 200 tonnes.
The Boeing 747-8
The most recent model of Boeing aircraft, the Boeing 747-8, integrates upgrades and technological advancements from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Thanks to improvements in wing and engine technology as well as extended aircraft, more people or cargo can be carried by this airplane.
