Three baby hippo calves were chased back into the river by an angry elephant after it charged at them in this remarkable sᴄᴇɴᴇ. In Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ, hippopotamus calves were traversing the Umfolozi River. An elephant was standing with its head lowered toward some ɢʀᴀss on the other side of the pond.
But as soon as it spotted the three baby hippos in the murky water, it lifted its eyes. The group staggered up the riverbed toward the elephant, catching its eye as they approached. Two of the baby animals were underwater at the time and were therefore invisible when the elephant tried to scare them away. The elephant charged again when the calves still didn’t respond, ᴛᴇʀʀɪғʏing the two nearby hippos.
The three curious calves finally returned to the water when the elephant rushed forward a third time. The elephant charged into a tree, knocking it to the ground, and the young animals ran away with a tremendous splash. One of the three raised its head from the water and gave the elephant one last look.
Mr. Evan Malsbury, the person who recorded the video, was a part of a tour company that had organized a river trip. He claimed that the elephant was left alone for some time prior to the arrival of the three hippopotamuses. The drama then took it up a notch.
