Road trains are famous for being the longest trucks in the world and are used to heavy lifting. Since the Outback is so desolate, the majority of freight is transported by road, and Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀn road trains are made to be the most efficient means of doing so. These “trains” are enormous, lengthy trucks that are hauling numerous trailers. They are connected using converter dollies, as the name suggests.

To operate a railway on a regular road, certain approvals are needed. There are no freeways or superhighways in the outback, therefore the majority of the roads are one lane. The longest road train can be up to 53 meters long and weigh between 80 and 120 tonnes.
